Currently residing in Atlanta, Georgia, I received my Bachelor of Arts in Sociology from Georgia State University in 2013. I received a Master of Science in Strategic Communications from Troy University in July 2019. I created this blog to filter through my thoughts and discuss recurring themes that come up in many conversations with my peers.
A few things about my personality that can't be interpreted via text: Yes—I am a Millennial (but don't believe the slander you have heard about us)! If you ever get a chance to meet me IRL, be prepared for big smiles and VERY loud laughs. In pure Sagittarian form, my directness is sometimes misread. I'm very protective of my energy and those I share my space with, so if I don't get too close, I'm sorry—it's you, not me. I occasionally quote songs or movies and to catch what I reference is a love language of its own. Music and movies are my two loves and I’m always willing to divulge a conversation surrounding either topic.
As my colleague says, I'm a "three letter bag wearing girl" of the first and oldest Greek-letter organization established by African-American college-educated women, Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated. I cannot thank this organization enough for the lifelong bonds it's allowed me to have and to be amongst the ranks of marvelous black women known throughout American history.
Above all, I am a wordsmith by trade! I live with intentionality about what I say because life and death lie in the power of the tongue. Code-switching is just another layer to the veil of double-consciousness that is a reality for young, black professionals like myself. Those that are truly gifted know how to finesse with ease. If you know like I know—everybody ain’t able! I’m just grateful to make a seat at the table.
Thank you in advance for supporting a young creative’s dream. Until I post again... Be great!
